Bill's Belgian Medals

Medal Groups - Page 11

Shown immediately above is a nice World War 1 group of twelve medals which also includes a numbered Russian Cross of St. George - I
believe - a striking medal awarded to a Belgian soldier.

The latest very special additions to my collection include the medals belonging to the distinguished Belgian artist and engraver, Henri
Quittelier - painter, draughtsman and engraver. (Brux., 1884-1980). Can someone please help me identify his medals?

These Commander awards were to the distinguished Belgian painter, Henri Quittelier.
However, can someone identify what these orders are?

Quittelier's miniature medals are shown above. His full size medals are displayed below.

Henri QUITTELIER, Belgian, 1884-1980. A well-listed painter, draftsman, etcher, engraver, woodcut
printer and lithographer, Henri Quittelier studied at the Brussels Academy under Emile Fabry (1865-
1966), a leading symbolist, muralist and lithographer; Isidore Verheyden (1846-1905), a respected
professor of painting after nature; Herman Richir (1866-1942), a former Prix de Rome, and under
the influential Herman Jean Delville (1867-1953), another leading Belgian symbolist.

Quittelier tackled all genres: figures, portraits, landscapes, architectural views, religious
compositions, interiors and marines. He also taught at the Academy of Nivelles, south of Brussels.
He co-founded and for numerous years, was President of, Uccle Centre d’Art, in the Brussels
suburbs. Symbolism and nostalgia for the past permeated the artist’s oeuvre and remained a
constant inspiration during his entire life.
