Bill's Belgian Medals

Medal Groups Page 3

    This photograph features a classic
WW2 group of medals to a volunteer
soldier who joined the Belgian Army in
    the United Kingdom, escaping from
Belgium - hence the Evader's Cross.

But in addition to earning a Croix de
Guerre with Regimental citation, he was
also entitled to the British 1939-45 Star
and the France & Germany Star. A very
    nice group indeed.

    This photo features another classic
WW2 group of medals to an officer
who joined the Belgian Army as a
    regular soldier before 1934.

He took part in the 18 day campaign
in 1940 against the German Army
and was wounded in the process.

He also served in the Belgian
    resistance before escaping from
Belgium for which he was awarded
the Evader's Cross. He then served
in the UK and Africa and, in addition
to his Belgian African Service medal,
he was also entitled to the British
1939-45 Star and the Africa Star.

    A superb group!

This is a poignant addition to my collection - a posthumous group of three
medals with all supporting certificates and other documentation from the
Ministere de la Defense Nationale confirming the award to Raphael Marie Van
Helmont of the Croix de Chevalier de l'Ordre de Leopold II avec palm et la Croix
de Guerre, together with the Brevet of the Medaille Commemorative de la Guerre
    1914-18 - posthumous award.

Van Helmont was a soldier of the 2nd Regiment of Carabiniers who fell at
    Thildonck on 12th September 1914.
