Bill's Belgian Medals

Medal Groups - Page 7

    So how impressive is this
    group?

    This amazing group in my
    collection belonged to an
    unknown soldier whom I am
    keen to identify.

    His medals are complete with
    matching miniatures, plus
    photos, armbands and other
    ephemora.

Apart from a host of Belgian
    orders and medals from both
major wars, he had the rare
    honour of being elected a
    Companion of the French
    Order of Liberation and
    received the Distinguished
    Service Order and very rare
    Silver Allied Subjects Medal -
    both of these latter medals
    for bravery - from Britain.

I am aware that the DSO is
not of standard issue - I am
    advised that it was
    possibly made in Belgium.

In the photo on the left he is seen with
    colleagues from the Chevaliers avec
Glaives for which I have his armband as
Vice President. In addition, I have an
armband with a military version of the
Knights of Leopold 1 and another with the
    Yser Cross.

So armed with this data, and additional pictures I have displayed, then I would invite you all to provide any
intelligence on the organisation or awards that might help to identify the owner of this unique group of 31
    honours and awards.

Incidentally, the brass plate marked Chevaliers Avec Glaives 1914-1918 was awarded to Chevalier J. Van
Konin, believed to be at the extreme right of the picture featuring three Chevaliers. So email me please if
    you think you can help.

To allow the reader to appreciate the full extent of this unusual group of medals, I have separated them
by layer and presented them in the photographs below.

Finally, below I have presented the miniature group for this same individual and the perceptive among you
will see that it contains the rare Leopold 2 Knight medal with the incorrectly issued crossed swords.
