Bill's Belgian Medals

Miniature Groups of Belgian Medals

I was stunned to find this Allied Subjects Bronze Medal at
Wavre on the same day that I purchased the karge group at
the left which has the rare Allied Subjects Silver Medal - it is
    also not for sale.

A very nice World War 2 resistance group with some interesting foreign awards.

A Leopold 2 knight medal with
    inset diamonds - a jewelled
    piece often commissioned by
    recipients.

I have also got the full size medals to
    accompany this excellent Great War
    group of 20 miniature medals.

A classic Great War group from a long serving soldier.

Another interesting Great War group.

An interesting group from a veteran of the Great War and World War 2.

An unusual group from a volunteer veteran of the
Great War and World War 2.

An interesting Great War and World War 2 Resistance group.

A nice Congo Service Commander of the Order of the
Crown group.

A very unusual  group with a fire service medal and gold stripe on the Order of
the Crown.

The miniature group of 4 medals above, including
the British MVO, Portuguese Order of Avis, and
Belgian Order of Leopold 1 (Military Division) and
Order of the Crown, was part of a much larger
group of medals, full size and miniature, that
belonged to Baron De Heusch and which was
disposed of piecemeal at a public auction earlier
this year.  I have my good friend Kurt Van Camp to
thank for this little piece of history as he kindly
bid for me knowing of my interest in Belgian
    history and attributable medal groups.

This would not have happened in the UK where a
group of this nature, belonging to a distinguished
war hero, would have been auctioned as a
complete item, by a premier auction house.

Colonel Baron Raymond de Heusch was born in
1916 and took part in the brief 1940 campaign
during the German invasion of Belgium. He was
taken prisoner of war but re-enlisted with No. 10
Commando in 1944, serving with the Belgian Paras
in the UK.  He was to become one of the most
decorated Belgian soldiers of WW2 and was
decorated by most European countries for his
services with the liberation forces in 1944 and
1945.  He was also appointed Aide de camp to the
    King.

If you have any information on Baron Raymond de
Heusch and his wartime exploits, I would be
grateful if you could send the information to me at
    wgwsimpson@aol.com

An interesting Great War group with three mentions in
the Army Order of the Day and an unknown French
award.

On this page I have featured some of my miniature groups of medals purely for the interest of fellow collectors. However, as the main focus of
my collection is on authenticated groups, I may consider offers for miniature groups from serious collectors.

I make no apology for featuring this DSO, Allied Subjects,
MBE medal group yet again, a collection of Allied medals that
surely has a fabulous history behind it - it is a unique and rare
group that is not for sale.

An unusual Military Cross Group with red cross recognition medals.

A World War 2 POW group from a soldier who took
part in the 1940 campaign with a mention - it also
includes the scarce Knight of the Order of the Lion.
