A great site about Belgian medals but unfortunately only in Dutch at the moment I look forward to an English version one day! |

In recent months, the demands of travel have prevented any expansion of my medal collection. In addtion, a decision to extend my home on Alderney in the Channel Islands to include the construction of a new studyroom has prompted me to review my collection. I am therefore in the process of deciding which medals or groups of medals could be released for sale - probably on eBay - to fellow collectors. I have selected some of the possible candidates for sale below. Bill Simpson |

Yet another excellent Great War group of 10 medals all mounted on rare ball bars. This was awarded to a volunteer soldier who then served for 15 years. |
Above right is an excellent Great War group for a regular soldier from Liege who later became involved in the Belgian Post Office. Very unusual group and nicely mounted. The group at the right is a striking Great War group (ball bar mounted) with the knight medals of the Orders of the Crown and Leopold II. |

This quite splendid group of Great War medals belonged to Julien, Joseph, Adolphe Louwagie who joined the Belgian Army as a Telegraphist on 15 September 1913. He was born in Blankenberge on 15 February 1893. Julien served at the Yser River in 1914 and was awarded the Yser Medal, and the photo at top right shows a shell exploding on the German side of the river. Each of the photos of ruins in the combat area is described and dated on the reverse. Julien was awarded 6 front stripes - one gilt and one silver bar on his Commemorative Medal 1914-18 and also received the Knight of the Order of the Crown with Cross Swords and Knight of Leopold II, also with Crossed Swords. In addition to his Croix de Feu (Type 2), he has a Croix de feu buttonhole and War Cross Bonds, and received the Albert Commemorative medal which was issued in 1962. From all of this information, including a summary report on his career and a Pension document from the Army - retired from the Army on 10 November 1936 - we can deduce that Julien Louwagie had a long and hopefully content life. |

This group is a classic World War 1 group of nine medals - including a Croix de Guerre with three palms. A great group for any collection. |

Another classic World War 1 group of 8 medals - including knight medals with crossed swords for the Orders of the Crown and Leopold II. |
