| Bill's Belgian Medals Medal of the Month October Article 4 Medal for Bravery |
Medal of the Month Arguably Belgium’s most illustrious medal, the Military Decoration (Article 4) was instituted on 22nd December 1873 and is awarded to Belgian's armed forces non-commissioned officers or enlisted men either for acts of bravery or distinguished service (Article 4). It is the same medal as for long service, but with a distinctive red one bordered by the national Belgian colours as shown. This cross was renewed by Royal decree on 8th July 1952 and was extended to officers. In case of an award for war-time related acts, a silver palm with the royal monogram is affixed on the ribbon. Above is a charcoal drawing of WW1 Article 4 Recipient. Bill Simpson |
